v. CLYDE R. HOGAN, b. May 19, 1895, Lee County Ky; d. October 08, 1937, Lee County Ky.
Notes for CLYDE R. HOGAN:
Clyde Hogan it seems was always in some kind of trouble, he was in jail in New York when his brother in law Andrew Cox managed to get him released and he returned to Lee County Ky. where he continued
to be involved in other trouble making activities. After a quarrel with a neighbor he shot and killed the
horse the neighbor was riding. He and his Brother in law Boone Dennis opened a saloon at Sandfield Ky. on Rt. 52 across the road from the old general store and Post Office.
On Oct. 8, 1937 Clyde was shot inside the saloon and staggered out into the highway and fell dead.
According to reports Boone Dennis, his son Zack Dennis, and an unnamed local was present. No one was ever held accountable for his murder. According to accounts over the years from many people it seems that he was considered a dangerous man and many people were afraid of him which probably had some bearing on his death.
Since all people involved has since passed away the rest of the story is that Boone and his two sons Zack barely 18, and Willy age 14 were at the saloon when Clyde came in and started to yell and threaten
Boone. When it reached a point where it appeared that he might harm Boone 18 year old Zack grabbed
a gun and shot Clyde fearing for his fathers safety. Why nothing was ever done is pure speculation
but I believe that the authorities after hearing the story especially in view of Clydes reputation decided to forget the case.
Clyde was married at some time in his life as he had 1 son Ralph Hogan who committed suicide while a member of the U. S. Army.

Notes for JAMES MADISON HOGAN:
James M. Hogan was adopted by David after his marriage to Armilda but who is his real father??.
Per 1875 Lee Co. Marriage records;
Armilda Mann married Perin Coomer Jan. 8, 1873, James was born Oct. 1874 per 1900 Lee Co. Census
records.
Per 1875 Lee Co. Birth records;
Oct 7, 1875, James M. Mann, male, alive, born Lee Co., s/o William Maloney b. Lee Co. & Arminda Mann
b. Lee Co. Ky.
The story that has always been told about James Madisons' true bloodline is that he is supposedly the son of "Red" Bill Maloney. There is a Maloney here that could help with the answers to this mystery, but every time she has been asked about it, she refuses to discuss it. She is Lucy Maloney Hogan. She is the widow of Ted Hogan. They ran a general store on the road from Beattyville to Jackson. She still lives there. Let me know if you have ever heard this. I really have never heard the possibility of James Madison being a Mann, but who knows?
